Today it all started sinking in..
I’ve been mostly detached about the house, what’s happening there, feeling no different than the natural ownership that I take on any of our Lincoln Construction jobsites. But today it hit me.
“This is our house.. we are going to be living here, and using this soon”
I don’t know if it was seeing it come together, with the sink semi installed, and my temporary melamine counter on.. or what it was. Maybe that it suddenly looked familiar.. like the déjà vu of my dreams for this house. The plans that were just ink on paper have come to life.
That realization hit me like a tonne of bricks. This isn’t a client’s home. I’m moving in here. It’s crazy, and suddenly I feel very small and humbled.. at the same time getting really excited.
Seeing things I dreamed of, designed, and had drawn up on excel spreadsheets, and IKEA planners (cause they’re free and really user friendly, but make no mistake.. these are NOT IKEA cabinets.. #notthatthereisanythingwrongwiththat)
note in photos below- cabinets are not quite done, a couple of spacers, pieces of crown and a few handles to go yet..
Having a real pantry.. with dovetail birch drawers.. its just crazy to think about.
No more tiny galley kitchen with zero counter space, total of 3 (ok.. 5) cabinets.. no more storing many items on a window bench, or on top of the fridge, on the floor..no more oversized fridge that doesn’t fit. Gone are the days when kitchens were hidden behind closed doors. Now they are the heart of the home, the heartbeat.. the show piece.. and this one is definitely going to be a show piece with a big ole heartbeat.
we are both so very pleased by the craftsmanship on the insides of the cabinets. Opening drawers will be a fun past time. I mean.. look at that dovetail!
One more exciting thing happened today.. the stone on the exterior was delivered first thing this morning and our mason got to work immediately, getting a large portion completed on the first day.
The pink house will soon be a distant memory..
