Moving Home Part 1

Where do i begin??

The phone rang before 730 am, the appliances were on their way.  We had come home well after midnight last night from an amazing Christmas work party.. thanks to the ever amazing Chef Brad, and John & Helena, owners of Lincoln Construction.  Here’s just a small taste of what last night’s offerings were…

L to R.. the “amuse bouche” 3 large scallops on a pomegranate slaw, 2 soup choices, (I couldn’t, so he gave me both in one bowl, and magically they didn’t mix.. Southwest Sweet Potato with Creme Fraiche, and a  Tomato Bisque with Pesto, then a salad, then main course which was a beef tenderloin, with seared rainbow trout, twice baked potato and veg.  Before all that.. we had 1.5 hrs of appetizers, including lamb kebabs, chicken kebabs, stuffed jalepenos, mushroom caps, rumaki, crab cakes.. i’m serious.  It was incredible.

so back to today.. after the appliances were skillfully delivered early this morning, Bill put the fridge in place and plugged it in. We’ll need the plumber and gas guy to get our DW and stove/microwave hoodvent installed, as well as hooking up the water line for the fridge.

Our very good friends, Thomas, Charlene, Pete, along with my sister Wilma & husband Dick came and worked like crazy to help us today.  The guys got the W/D upstairs and stacked in position.. this was likely the biggest, heaviest hardest job of the day.

Charlene unpacked my entire kitchen, while i did the bathroom and odd stuff around the house.   Wilma cleaned like a fiend, washing lights, windows, floors..

The guys got all our big furniture in, and immediately set up our kitchen/dining table, where we celebrated with a coffee break together.

i was so very pleased to see that our own furniture and even artwork fits so beautifully with our new colour scheme… in fact it works so much MORE than it did in the old yellow home.  The photo doesn’t do it justice at all.. you’ll just have to come and see it for yourself. 🙂

with the appliances, we received a free set of 10 Kitchenaid cookware.. 3 frying pans, 3 pots, and glass lids.  I thought it only fitting that they should receive their very own drawer.  🙂

Everyone worked so hard, and gave hours to us today.. it was phenomenal.  We got so much more done than I dreamed or hoped.   Tomorrow we take our Sabbath, and go to worship together with our church family.  We are so incredibly blessed, much more than we can express, and I am excited about worshipping with my family tomorrow.

God is so good.  All the time.

Monday we continue to clean & unpack, hopefully get the appliances all hooked up and working, and receive a pass on our occupancy inspection.

By the end of the week we should be sleeping, cooking and eating in this beautiful new house.

Please visit, we’d love to serve you in our new home.

Bill (Guillermo 'cause he likes pretending he knows Spanish) and I (Amy) have been married since Sept 2005. We live in Southern Ontario, Canada - Niagara Peninsula in fact, smack dab between 2 of the Great Lakes. We love God, our family, our church family, and making each other laugh. (ergo the profile pic, he decided to make our photographer laugh by throwing a leg up on me just before the shutter clicked, which made ME laugh) When we married, I told Bill: "I don't know how to cook" but he had faith in me. So 15 years later, I'm still learning, and having fun. I've never (in my whole life) cooked a whole bird, chicken, turkey or otherwise. I've never roasted a beef, other than in a crockpot on low for 8 hrs. I like trying to find healthy & easy recipes and then I rarely follow them. I don't enjoy recipes that take hours or intricate steps. I have a special fondness for the Podleski sisters, writers/creators of the Looney Spoons, Crazy Plates and Yum/Yummer cookbooks. In 2018 we suddenly decided to rip our small house apart from stem to stern, moving out for 4.5 months while the house was demolished inside and out, and then rebuilt with an addition. If you go back in the archives to July-Dec 2018 you can follow that story. It's made our house open and so much more conducive to entertaining, small groups and large. It's given us the kitchen I've dreamed of to create and learn in. We feel incredibly blessed to be able to write about our journey, our faith in God and some fun recipes along the way. Thanks for joining us.

    1. Actually the paint, silicone and other chemical smells from new HVAC and stuff is a bit overpowering.. and the mess from moving and trades still is overwhelming. It’s kinda nice when we’re exhausted at the end of the day to go back to the J lounge to escape it.
